Our Story

Ebony Care Co-Operative is based on the worker co-operative, non-profit platform. This means the business is operated solely by its members. This amazing company was founded by a group of empowered, Black women who seized the opportunity to create employment while working for the benefit of the most vulnerable in our community.

In the spring of 2018, we learned of the opportunity from one of our members who had attended a meeting hosted by the Women’s Multicultural Resource and Counselling Centre (WMRCC) in Durham. This organization had received an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant for worker Co-operatives and our founding members worked energetically and enthusiastically so we could incorporate in 2019.
